Pet Dander Control Products
Almost half of U.S. households contain at least one cat or dog. According to the Humane Society of the US, 47% of households have at least one dog and 46% have at least one cat. For millions of pet owners and pet lovers, pet allergies can be a problem.
As pet owners ourselves we know it is hard to be allergic to your pet, a beloved family member.
Dogs, cats, hamsters, and guinea pigs are all common household pets. They provide companionship and studies have shown that simply stroking their fur can lower blood pressure.
Not to mention they are a whole lot easier to take care of than children. Just kidding! Other health benefits of owning a pet are lessening anxiety and depression.
But, if you are allergic to furred animals the sneezing, wheezing, itchy and watery eyes, coughing, or nasal congestion you experience can reduce the joy of owning a pet.
Unfortunately, pet allergies are often misunderstood. Many people with allergies or asthma think they can't have pets. This is not always the case.
People frequently think that the source of pet allergens is the animal’s fur. This is not true. The false belief that fur is the source of the pet allergen leads people to believe that pets that do not shed or shed little will not contribute to allergies. This is also not true.
BTW - Contrary to popular opinion, there are no truly “hypoallergenic breeds” of dogs or cats. Allergic dander in cats and dogs is not affected by the length of hair or fur, nor by the amount of shedding.
if it is so easily spread, how do you get rid of pet dander? Giving up a pet to prevent allergy symptoms isn’t always necessary. An allergist/immunologist has specialized training and experience to accurately diagnose your symptoms and develop a treatment plan to help you or your child manage allergy symptoms and potentially keep your furry friends.
You can get rid of pet dander by grooming the pet to reduce the amount of dander produced, vacuuming frequently, using a HEPA air filter, using anti-allergen sprays, and limiting where the pet goes.
